THE PARISH CHURCH OF ST MARK, BOURNE END |
New Church Hall |
St Mark's Church Hall is in urgent need of repair/refurbishment. It has to be brought
up to modern day standards to comply with various regulations, in particular
proper access for disabled persons. With this in mind, we are looking to build an 'eco friendly' Hall. What does this mean? An 'eco friendly' building is made from wood using sections filled with straw bales and rendered to make them airtight. What are the advantages? A build of this sort is cheaper than a traditional built structure and the insulation properties are about 3 times greater than a traditional build and the building is built using locally harvested straw. How long does it take to build? The building can be erected in about 2 weeks and will incorporate rain water harvesting and heating via solar panels. In addition, as a 'zero carbon' public building, we could attract a significant government grant. What is this going to cost? About £300,000. How can I help? Very soon, a link to a specific fundraising page will be set up via this website where you and your friends can donate towards this project. Gift Aid will also be reclaimed from any donation made (subject to the donator being a UK tax payer). To register your interest, please email webmaster@stmarksbourneend.org uk and insert fundraising in the subject box and we will contact you when the fundraising page is set up. Where can I find out more? You can see more information about these types of buildings here |
